Two volumes, usual red cloth, lettered gilt. Red silk markers. Vol I xi+80+298pp., plus directory:569-602pp.. Vol. II: pp-299-602, pp52 Murray’s Handbook Advertiser. Maps (many folding) and plans. Contemporary Biarritz (Vtor. Benquet) bookseller’s label to endpapers.
Lacks folding general map in pocket. Otherwise in good condition but some damp staining to cloth especially volume II. A good set, tight and clean.
Richard Ford (1796–1858) travel writer known for his books on Spain. Born in Chelsea and educated at Oxford, he moved to Spain in 1830, where he travelled extensively compiling notes and drawings. An account of his journeys “A Handbook for Travellers in Spain” published by John Murray in 1845 is now considered a classic in travel literature
