Ibo is an alternative name for Igbo. Ida Ward was best known for her influential works on African languages, notably Yoruba, Mende, Igbo and Efik. She collaborated with Hermann Westermann on the often reprinted ‘Practical Phonetics for Students of African Languages’ and worked closely with the famous phonetician Daniel Jones. She was a leading authority on tonal languages.
