Small 8vo., original green buckram, title in gilt to upper board. 166pp., 24pp publisher’s lists. Advertisement bound into title page.
In good condition, clean and tight but mild signs of age and usage. Spine head and tail nicked, contemporary ink inscription to endpapers and occasionally within.
The first owner, Alexander D. Adamson also of Madras College (see Robert Armstrong), living at 2 Howard Place, St Andrews, dated 1879, has practised his attractive copperplate inscription in a youthful hand a number of times on the endpapers.
An unusual edition. Not in COPAC in this format. The ‘Introduction to English Etymology’ was first published in 1858.
