Rather small 4to (12 x 18cm., signatures in 4s) in leather backed marbled boards, xxiv[ii],96, 89-96, 95-114pp+[blank]. Signatures -R2. The name ‘Fletcher’ in contemporary ink to rear paste-down. Antiquarian’s note in pencil to front paste-down. A good copy. Leather rubbed, spine chipped top and tail, boards a little rubbed. Lacking preliminaries. A1 is title page. Tight and clean with minor signs of use. A translation of Misson's compilation first published as Le théâtre sacré des Cevennes, London, 1707. The first edition in English had appeared in the same year. The author's espousal of the 'French prophets' was the butt of several critical and satirical pamphlets.. “On the very day that he (John Lacy) delivered his translation to the printer, 1st March 1707, he was seized with "bodily agitations", and some months later, in June, he made his first prophetic pronouncements...” (Rodama, 2017).
