12mo., half calf, marbled boards, spine gilt ruled and decorated in compartments, morocco labels lettered gilt. 338 pp.. 2 folding maps engraved by noted engraver and cartographer Sidney Hall (1788?–1831), two steel engravings by Henry Adlard (active 1824-1869). Maps and plates complete as called for.
Small two centimetre piece unfortunately missing form spine head. Otherwise a very good copy. Boards and edges just a little rubbed. Internally very crisp and clean.
Josiah Conder (1789–1855) as well as being a clergyman, an editor and writer and a popular hymn-writer, was also a prominent abolitionist and supported the repeal of British anti-Jewish laws. His most ambitious work was the thirty-volume worldwide geographical work: “The Modern Traveller”.
