Original crêpe-paper wrappers, 80pp., 11x15cm.. Limited to 300 copies, not numbered. Used; Very Good Putnam, a writer and journalist, travelled the world, including Cuba during the War of Independence. He was a prolific poet, essay and fiction writer for the National Magazine in the period between 1899 and 1915. In Diana Birchall's: "Onoto Watanna: The Story of Winnifred Eaton" Putnam is presumed to be one of Eaton's many lovers. His poetry "drips with maudlin affectations and schmaltzy sentimentality" (Birchall). "Putnam's poetic enthusiasm exceeded his talent" (Marx). Author's presentation copy (possibly) to W. E. Gladstone. "Affectionately inscribed to the one great man in public life who has the courage to speak for stricken Armenia F. P.."
