Used; Very Good Harold Palmer, regarded as the founder of applied linguistics as a discipline, was an English linguist, phonetician and pioneer in the field of English language learning and teaching. He wrote widely on the principles of language study, language teaching methodology and on 'spoken' English. In Britian he collaborated with Daniel Jones on research into spoken English and applied phonetics. Later Palmer became 'Linguistic Advisor' to the Department of Education in Japan and continued to contribute much on language acquisition and teaching methodology.
